- Fixed bug that wouldn't let a new user delete their account in the new user stage
after refusing to accept the rules.
- Tried to clean up the SysOp dialog by making the NewUser PICT a tad smaller. Still
displays a tiny bit of garbage in the registration edit text item. Can't figure this
out but its only a cosmetic issue. Also made the dialog fit properly to avoid
extending the dialog beyond what Hermes expects.
- The pause prompt now uses the string you have defined in the Text window or the
defualt "Hit a key..." prompt.
- Now patches the "Search for new public messages to you" prompt on the first call.
1.2
- The Main Menu no longer goes to a pause prompt when the user enters a menu item
that doesn't exist. Now it just redraws the menu.
- Cleaned up the spacing between some of the prompts and other garbage.
- Added SysOp external for editing the two major prompts used in the new user
stage.
- Introduced registration code scheme over the mail method I was using before. Now
all you need is a password sent out via E-Mail to remove the Shareware message.
This is also in the SysOp external.
- Other good stuff I can't remember.
1.1
- Added support for more than four SysOp defined text files in main menu. This new
feature comes with one caveat, the main menu can't filter out menu selections for
files that don't exist. I will work on this but for now you just get a pause prompt for
files that aren't there.
- Replaced old Hermes style "[PAUSE]" prompts with "[Hit a key to continue]".
• Introduction
Let me first point out that I no longer operate a Hermes BBS. This means I haven't been able to test NewUser II as I would have liked to. The system I tested on was configured as follows:
- Quadra 605
- Hermes II 1.0.1: 1 Node; All tests done under local logons; Preferred size 2500k
• What it does
NewUser II will automatically list a text file containing your system rules and regulations to new users on their first call.
At this point the user has two options:
(1)Accept the rules and continue to a menu providing access to four text files you
create. These files might contain things like "How to use this BBS", etc..
(2) Refuse to accept the rules and delete their account on the spot.
• Installation
(1) Quit Hermes
(2) Place the "NewUser II" external and the "NewUser Files" folder into your "Externals"
folder.
(3) Boot up Hermes and logon as a new user. You will then get a good feel for how the
external operates.
(4) Modify the text files located in the "NewUser Files" folder to contain your rules,
etc..
(5) To add a new text file to the Main Menu, just create the new text file and name
it with any letter (excluding Z and Q). You will also need to update your menus
so users know about it.
(6) There are two prompts you can edit by selecting NewUser II from the SysOp
Externals dialog. To edit them, just enter the new prompt and hit "Save" before
closing the the window or switching to another SysOp external.
• Registration
Registration entitles you to free upgrades for the life of the project. Should the passwords change in the future, just E-Mail me for the new ones.
When you recieve your registration number, simply open the NewUser II SysOp external and enter the new password in the appropriate box (it tells you exactly where in the dialog itself). Now just hit the "Register" button.
